I apologize for being M.I.A for the past week or so, school has just been incredibly hectic and busy finishing up my final projects.
Once I finally wrap up the blogs regarding Spring Break I will show you all what I have been working on! And show you exactly why it has been taking me wayyyy too long to finish spring break posts!
Now time for me to show you my amazing time in Athens, Greece!
We only stayed for two days, but the views we experienced were so breath taking, those few minutes were really all that I needed.
It was a beautiful day when we arrived in Athens. We were able to find our hotel quite easily, however we had to do a lot of walking to get there, which trust me is not very enjoyable with a heavy bag on your shoulder.
Below are some pictures of the early morning traveling, leaving Rome to go to Athens. As you can see I was quite a sleepy lady =P

(Haha I think it's funny that we have matching blue duffle bags. Trust me we definitely did not plan that!)

Here are photographs from the first few moments in Athens!...

Drew and I decided we would first head to the port to check it out, see the water, and see if there were any good sites to see. The water was beautiful of course, but honestly the surroundings were not very impressive. Athens as a city is honestly not that great. Luckily they have the ancient ruins, or else frankly speaking the city would be terrible.
It was pretty funny though getting to the port. We hopped on the public tranist, however there was a detour, which we did not even understand, but thankfully a nice young woman who spoke English let us know what was going on.
So we had to get of the tram and find a bus to take us there. Which it is hard enough finding your way around in a foreign city, let alone having to reroute because of detours! It honestly just made us laugh so much. It was quite an adventure, but we made it. =)
I took a snapshot capturing Drew's disbelief in the confusion and humor of the situation.

We so badly would have loved to go the the Greek islands while there, but it was honestly just too expensive and we didn't really have the time. But we still got a small glimpse of the coast!

We decided to head to Monastiraki after the port because I had read before we came that it was definitely an area to check out. And it sure was, there were so many people and shop after shop along the narrow roads filled with souvenirs and all sorts of things. Like most areas within Athens exist parts of ruins, and there were some neat pieces scattered throughout Monastiraki. The sun was also starting to set when we got there and we decided we would find somewhere for dinner in the area.

Down one of the streets was restaurant after restaurant, it was crazy. It was also funny too because basically each served the same exact food and they were all in this intense competition to win people over. We were just strolling down the road glancing at menus trying to see which had the best prices and they were like vultures on us, trying everything to get us to eat at their restaurant haha.
We ended up deciding on one, and we had the most amazing meal ever! I do believe that I can truly say it was the best meal I have had in Europe!!
The two of us split a large Greek salad which was delicious!! And we also split this ridiculously large meat platter which included chicken, chicken wrapped in bacon, these miniature beef burgers, pork, sausage, and also had a bunch of cheeses. We got the house wine, fresh bread, and had a lovely meal! Here are some pictures...

Before...
After...

On our way back we were waiting for the subway and we noticed that the stop for it was basically built within/over some ruins. Which apparently is the case majority of the time. When they went to implement the public transportation systems underground they came across many ruins, which is really neat I think!
So here are a few pictures of them...

Once we got off at the stop for our hotel, we decided not to go back right away and just walk around a little to explore the immediate surroundings. Unfortunately there really wasn't very much activity or interesting things happening, so we didn't walk around for long. But here are just a few photos I took of this pretty fountain we saw.

The last few photographs are of our hotel and us just being silly back in the room. =)
That is all for tonight, Enjoy!
I need to catch up on some much needed sleep considering I have maybe slept a total of 20 hours over the last week =/
Sadly I am not joking, that is what happens when its final project time!
But no worries because today I finished!!!
I printed my last final boards today and am installing them in the exhibit space tomorrow.
Then Wednesday and Thursday the Detroit Warsaw International Exchange Exhibit will occur at the faculty showing all of ours, and the Polish student's work from this semester.
Urban design, Interior design, and Architectural Design projects will be shown.
Plus some of our watercolor paintings and drawings! =)
I will definitely post photographs from the exhibit, but at the end of the Spring break posts I will give a peek at my final boards =)
Next to come, final day in Athens, then Berlin! =)
Have a very enjoyable night,
xo
